California Coastal Cleanup Day with Save the Bay
Join fellow Tigers at Colma Creek in South SF as we enjoy the great outdoors and work together to clean up the wonderful San Francisco Bay!

General Info:

We will kick off our new partnership with Save the Bay on Saturday, September 25, 2010 as part of California Coastal Cleanup Day. Join your fellow Tigers from 9am to 12pm to clean up some of the trash that is polluting the San Francisco Bay, at a site in South San Francisco just north of SFO (Colma Creek). For those who don't want to get too dirty, we can use your help too, as data collectors (keeping a tally of what your group retrieves).

We'll gather for lunch immediately afterwards, outdoors at Buri Buri Park, unless we come up against a torrential downpour. PCNC will provide a light lunch and drinks. You can bring supplements for a picnic lunch as you see fit.

We are offering FREE t-shirts - For those of you who who would like a t-shirt, sign up (buy a $0.00 ticket) and indicate your t-shirt preference.  The ordering is closed, but we secured extras and will reserve you a shirt if we have it.

Carpooling is strongly encouraged -- if you're interested in ride-sharing, email Catherine Baker, with your general location (North Bay, East Bay, SF, Peninsula, South Bay) and whether you can drive or need a ride.

 Logistics from Save the Bay:

  • Plan to arrive by 8:45 am to park and sign-in. Save the Bay leaders are Carol, Dan, Natalie, Patrick and Darcie
  • Save the Bay is trying to make this a Zero Waste event and has designated this a bring-your-own-bucket-and-gloves event. We will provide some non-latex (nitrile) gloves for anyone who wants them.
  • Bring your own full water bottle for staying hydrated.
  • Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty.
  • Wear close-toed shoes (preferably those that will repel water/sand/dirt).
  • And of course, lather up with sunscreen and wear a hat. The Bay Area is great for its fickle weather.
  • Save the Bay will be giving out prizes for the most unusual item found and also for the 'best-dressed' bucket!

Cleanup Safety:

  • Introduction and safety details at 9am
  • All parents are ultimately in charge of the safety of their youth.
  • Wear gloves at all times
  • Some areas alongside the bank can be steep and muddy so use caution. If you have rainboots, waterproof boots or waterproof hiking boots, these are suggested.
  • Only adults should pick up broken glass pieces or needles and do so with extreme care - please deliver these to one of the Save The Bay leaders
  • Do not pick up any dead animals, hazardous materials, or try to lift heavy objects.
  • Alert the Save the Bay staff of any suspicious items immediately
