I'll Sing Your Tune: One-Upmanship in 19th Century Song

Come join Rebecca Plack ’91 for this unique musical event at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on Sunday, September 8th!

Songwriters have always been inspired by common themes, but most revealing are those who have been inspired by the exact same text. In a recital peppered with discussion, soprano and art song scholar Rebecca Plack explores how a few great composers interpret a few great poems, drawing comparisons that illuminate their craft, their personalities and their attempts at compositional one-upmanship. Plack and pianist Curt Pajer perform songs by nineteenth century hit makers Wolf, Debussy and Schumann, classics revisited by contemporary composers, and rarities originally penned by Scottish poet Robert Burns.
