| A Talk With Blackthorne Inn and Black Heron Inn owner Bill Wigert, Princeton '65
When Bill Wigert graduated from Princeton in '65, and law school in '68, little did he know that 15 years later he would spend his time creating, designing and building a very special "treehouse" inn, the Blackthorne Inn, in Inverness , California , later named one of "The World's Most Romantic Hotels" by Forbes Magazine.
Along the way, he also spent nearly 30 years as an Intellectual Property attorney at Limbach & Limbach, LLP working as a lead counsel in patent enforcement matters, litigation strategy, settlement negotiations, etc. in intellectual property matters. He now is with Jackson & Co., LLP.
When Bill and his wife Susan Wigert bought the acre of property in 1973, they were looking for a modest vacation cabin. But Bill was inspired by non-conventional houses and when he designed what became the Blackthorne he designed rooms with bits of local history -- beams from a San Francisco pier, solarium doors that were once part of the Southern Pacific Railroad Station in San Francisco, windows from a Julia Morgan designed school and hearthstones from Donner Pass -- the place grew with a life of its own. The spiral staircase, the skybridge, a stone hearth for fireside evenings, with an actual fire pole and ladders are all highlights.

| Wildflower Walk in Edgewood's Serpentine Grasslands |

Ann Sunhachawee '97 |
| Spring Saturday stroll in a peninsula park with a local alumna
Trained as an Edgewood Natural Preserve tour docent, Ann Sunhachawee '97 has graciously invited Princeton Club of Northern California members to join her on her scheduled walk on Saturday, May 10, 2008. Ann's tours are quite popular with locals and often oversubscribed so make sure to plan ahead to join her.
If you cannot make the May date, Ann will also be leading a tour on Saturday, April 12 and other trained guides lead walks every weekend throughout the spring season. For further information, please visit: http://friendsofedgewood.org/docent_walks_2008.htm.
Edgewood's serpentine grasslands are renowned throughout California for their lush wildflower carpets and rich biodiversity. You might see dozens of species of flowers on a single walk! The free walk varies according to what is in bloom and covers about 3 miles, at a moderate pace, with frequent stops.
Walks start from the Old Stage Day Camp. Please bring water, a hat, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and a snack if you wish. There is no stop for lunch, but picnic tables are usually available after the walks in the Old Stage Day Camp area, where restrooms and water are available.

| Gather to discuss books with area alumnae.
On the second Wednesday of each month, the PWN Book Club gathers in a member's home or an area restaurant to eat, chat, and (usually) discuss that month's literary selection. The location changes from month to month so we can be welcoming to alumnae from all over the Bay Area, and books are chosen by consensus with those who show up! Recent selections have included both fiction and non-fiction, modern and classic, from "Uncle Tom's Cabin" to "The Botany of Desire", "The Virgin Suicides", and "Ender's Game". New participants are welcome all the time.

| Princeton Prize In Race Relations – Northern California Awards Ceremony |
5/17 |
12-3 |
Oakland |
John Jenkins '97 |
| Celebrate the 2008 winner of the Northern California Princeton Prize In Race Relations
This year's winner for the Northern California Princeton Prize in Race Relations is Magdalena Rodriguez. Hailing from Watsonville, Magge has been involved with race relations and civil rights since middle school. Her primary efforts have been with various youth and community-based organizations in Watsonville to promote racial and educational justice, increase the number of Latino students entering college, improve local schools, motivate greater civic participation among community members, and organize events that aim at reducing violence in the community. She served as the student leader of the effort to name a new Watsonville high school after Cesar Chavez, organized the Youth and Power conferences that bridge racial lines to encourage civic activism and participation, and has been the co-chair of the Watsonville Brown Berets, an organization that fights for racial justice. We are very fortunate to be able to recognize such in impressive young person, someone who we believe is just beginning a long career of improving race relations and fighting for civil rights.
We will be honoring Magge and the rest of the certificate winners May 17, between 12 and 3 pm, in Preservation Park in Oakland. Everyone who is interested is welcome to attend. Hope to see you there.

| Travels to Southeast Asia: Burma, Cambodia & Laos
Curious about the less explored corners of Southeast Asia? Professional travel photographer David Cardinal '81 will show us some of his photographs from the photo safaris he has led to Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia and Laos as well as let us in on some of his very colorful stories. Then we'll all participate in a lively discussion on some of the issues facing Burma and other countries in the region as well as the role that eco-tourism can play in helping address some of their persistent problems. If you're interested in traveling to the area there will also be plenty of advice on what to do and what to avoid if and when you go.
David Cardinal '81 is a long-time wildlife photographer who specializes in North American mammals and birds. His images of creatures in the wild help communicate the importance of our natural heritage and our responsibility to preserve it. David's work is part of the permanent exhibit at the Lucy Evans Baylands Nature Center and has been featured in exhibitions at thePalo Alto Civic Center, the Seipp Gallery in Palo Alto, The Works gallery in San Jose, the Watsonville Wetlands Nature Center, on calparks.org, and on portolavalley.net. David is co-author with Moose Peterson of The D1 Generation, and has had his articles and images appear in publications including Outdoor Photographer, Studio Photography & Design and PC Magazine. You can learn more about David and his photography at http://www.cardinalphoto.com.
