From Hostility to Hospitality: What's an IP attorney doing as an Innkeeper? A Talk and Tour with Blackthorne Inn and Black Heron Inn owner Bill Wigert, Princeton '65

$25 per person ($30 non members)

oyster bbq/salad(pasta or greens) lunch with local wines at the Black Heron Inn.

When Bill Wigert graduated from Princeton in '65, and law school in '68, little did he know that 15 years later he would spend his time creating, designing and building a very special "treehouse" inn, the Blackthorne Inn, in Inverness, California, later named one of "The World's Most Romantic Hotels" by Forbes Magazine.

Along the way, he also spent nearly 30 years as an Intellectual Property attorney at Limbach & Limbach, LLP working as a lead counsel in patent enforcement matters, litigation strategy, settlement negotiations, etc. in intellectual property matters. He now is with Jackson & Co., LLP.

When Bill and his wife Susan Wigert bought the acre of property in 1973, they were looking for a modest vacation cabin. But Bill was inspired by non-conventional houses and when he designed what became the Blackthorne he designed rooms with bits of local history -- beams from a San Francisco pier, solarium doors that were once part of the Southern Pacific Railroad Station in San Francisco, windows from a Julia Morgan designed school and hearthstones from Donner Pass -- the place grew with a life of its own. The spiral staircase, the skybridge, a stone hearth for fireside evenings, with an actual fire pole and ladders are all highlights.

Come join the Princeton Club on a delightful afternoon in Point Reyes, California to hear about the life of Ivy Leaguer-turned-innkeeper, and partake in some of the best organic home-grown West Marin treats as part of an afternoon picnic lunch. We'll take a tour of the Blackthorne Inn's architectural walkways and hidden nooks and crannies before venturing over to the Black Heron Inn, Wigert's other sister property adjacent to the Point Reyes National Seashore and overlooking the Tomales Bay and the Inverness Ridge. For more info, go to www.blackthorneinn.com and www.blackheroninn.com.

There is only room for 15 people. Please reserve early! Please call to book by phone or send your payment in by June 2 to the contact listed below.

Entrepreneurship in China and India 6/12 6-9 Menlo Park Christina Cragholm '97
Princeton alumnus and HBS Professor lectures, followed by panel discussion

Dr. Tarun Khanna '88, the Jorge Paulo Lemann Professor at Harvard Business School, will lecture on the topic addressed in his recent book: "Billions of Entrepreneurs: How China and India are Reshaping Their Future and Yours".

This is a rare opportunity to meet, greet, network and hear a powerful story of entrepreneurs powering change and creating wealth in China and India. Western concerns about the rise of China and India are raising alarms today, much as they were fifty years ago. China and India currently operate in the global economy as mirror images of each other-one favors multinationals over indigenous private companies, the other advantages its locals and shuns foreigners. And just as hysteria and protectionism proved unwarranted half a century ago, Khanna argues that the rise of China and India is again an opportunity for profit and hope.

Dr. Khanna's presentation will be followed by a lively panel discussion, featuring Mark Sherman (General Partner, Battery Ventures); David Chao (Co-Founder and General Partner DCM); and Sumir Chadha '93 (Managing Director, Sequoia Capital India).

Schedule of events:
6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Registration, Cocktails, Early Networking, Dinner
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm Speaker Perspectives, Panel Discussion and Q&A
8:00 pm Networking

Currently, Khanna teaches in Harvard's comprehensive general management executive education programs. He earned a Bachelors of Science in Engineering degree from Princeton, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University in 1993. In 2007, he was elected a Young Global Leader (under 40) by the World Economic Forum.

This event is sponsored by US-INDIA Venture Capital Association in partnership with PCNC, Asia Society, Harvard Business School Association of NC, and The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE). Please make your check out to "US-IVCA" and mail it to Christina Cragholm '97 to confirm your attendance.

US-IVCA (http://www.us-ivca.org) is a nonprofit organization established in California in June 2002. Its mission is to promote and strengthen US-India cross-border investments by providing an organized forum for venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and other key players to network and collaborate.

Scenic 6-7 mile hike on the Dipsea and Steep Ravine Trails

Join Christine Willand '98 and Dan Sullivan '63 on a leisurely 6-7 mile hike that goes along open coastal hills down the Dipsea Trail to a secluded lunch stop by the ocean. Princeton friends and children are welcome.

Driving directions: Beginning at the Highway 1 exit from US 101, take Highway 1 north about 3 miles, then bear right (uphill) onto Panoramic Highway. My Great-Grandfather an Inmate at Sing-Sing? Oy! 6/25 12-1:15 Palo Alto Karen Drexler '81
Silicon Valley Luncheon

After learning that his own ancester spent time "up the river" at Sing-Sing Prison, Ron began an investigation of all Jews who served time in the "Big House." Surprisingly (maybe not so), Ron found that there were thousands and thousands of his co-religionists who did a "stretch" at teh famous institution. Ron will talk about how he got involved in this project, provide a pictoral virtual tour of the still functioning 175 year-old, maximum security prison, and discuss the NY Jewish community's response to the problem of criminality in the city.

Born and raised in New York, Ron Arons has traced his roots to England, Poland, Romania, the Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania. He has given presentations at five of the last six IAJGS (Int'l Assoc. of Jewish Genealogical Societies) conferences, to local Jewish genealogical societies, and at history conferences across the country. He has written a book called The Jews of Sing-Sing which is available at Amazon.com. (Books will be available for purchase at the luncheon.) To facilitate his work in this area, Ron won a 2005 research grant from the New York State Archives. A veteran of the computer industry, Arons earned degrees from Princeton and the University of Chicago.

acclaimed as a masterpiece containing some of Handel's most emotionally
expressive arias. A Scottish prince is betrayed by a deceitful duke in this
compelling tale of passion, envy, greed, despair and ultimate triumph.

with the "vocally exquiste" soprano Ruth Ann Swenson co-starring as the
princess Ginevra. Polish contralto Ewa Podleœ, whose performance The New
York Times also praised as "electrifying…bringing the house down," plays the
scheming villian Polinesso.

Prior to the performance, please join Ivy alums for a private lecture with
