Talk to the Local FBI

As commerce becomes more and more automated and consumers increasingly rely on the web to make purchases, there are many cases of computer crimes and on-line fraud. Special Agent Andrew Black will describe the types of crimes, how the FBI investigates these crimes, and his experiences in the FBI's computer crimes division.

Agent Black joined the FBI in May of 1990 and was assigned to the San Francisco Division. As an FBI Agent, he has investigated a variety of offenses including bank robberies, white collar crimes, fugitives from justice, kidnappings and bombings. He is also a member of the FBI Legal Unit and provides instruction pertaining to search and seizure matters to the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. Agent Black is an original member of the San Francisco International Computer Crime Squad which was formed in August of 1995. Currently, Agent Black is the Media Representative for the San Francisco Office of the FBI.

Redwood Walk in Portola State Park 7/22 10:30-4 San Mateo County Dan Sullivan '63
Hike through redwood forest in Santa Cruz Mountains

Join Dan Sullivan '63 and Dewey Wilmont '93 on a moderate 5-6 mile hike through redwood forest and chaparral in the northern part of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Portola Redwoods State Park is in a deep redwood canyon west of Skyline Ridge, a world apart from Silicon Valley just a few miles away. A man named Page Mill operated a shingle mill here in the 1870s, hauling redwood shingles out by wagon on the road that bears his name. We will meet in the Hopkins Grove at the south end of the Visitor Center. Bring lunch and liquids.

Driving directions: From I-280, exit on Page Mill Road and go west for about 8.5 miles (and 50 curves) to Skyline Boulevard. Go across Skyline (Page Mill now becomes Alpine Road) and continue downhill about 3 miles (and 30 more curves), then turn left onto Portola State Park Road. The Visitor Center is a little over 3 miles (and another 35 curves) further down this road. Park in the Madrone Parking area on your left just before you reach the Visitor Center. Allow at least 45 minutes from the time you leave I-280, and enjoy the scenery.
