| 3rd Annual Wine & Bocce! |
10/14 |
10-3 |
Sonoma County |
Christina Cragholm '97 |
| Wine & Bocce
Time to bowl away
the last summertime blues! Join fellow Princetonians in the third annual
wine & bocce festival. The Italian version of lawn bowling is the perfect
activity for a warm autumn day in the midst of wine country harvest
season.
We'll start our day with an (optional) tasting at Silver Oak Cellars,
one of the finest Cabernet Sauvignons around. It is an early tasting
and touring appointment at 10am, but those who make it up to the northern
end of Sonoma County early definitely get a treat!
To fit with our Italian theme, at 11am, we'll get a special tour and
tasting at Ferrari-Carano's "Villa Fiore". If you haven't seen this
winery's landscape or tasted its Chardonnay, you're missing out.
By 1pm, we'll head to nearby Pedroncelli, where we'll take over the
bocce court and picnic tables for a catered box lunch.
If you want to attend the Silver Oak tasting, please add an additional
$10 per person to your total payment (you will receive a complimentary
glass). If not, the rest of the day is $23 for members and $28 for non-members.
Please send checks made out to PCNC to Christina Cragholm '97 by 10/7/00.
Directions:
Take 101N to the Canyon Rd. exit in Geyserville. At the offramp, turn
left back under the freeway and then look for the small Silver Oak sign.
Turn right and continue until you reach 24625 Chianti Rd.
For Ferrari-Carano, at the Canyon Rd. offramp in Geyserville, turn left
back under the freeway and continue on that road until it "T"s. Then
turn right and follow the signs to Ferrari-Carano at 8761 Dry Creek
Road.

| Angel Island Hike (or Bike) |

| A MODERATE 5 MILE HIKE UP AND AROUND ANGEL ISLAND
Angel Island is
a large, beautiful, green island in the middle of SF Bay just north
of Alcatraz. The island is laced with numerous hiking only and hike/bike
trails. The views throughout are spectacular and there are several historic
sites to complement the natural beauty.
Our hike will take
us to the top of the mountain and around the south shore. There are
numerous bail out options for shorter treks and you can take bikes (road
or mt.) and explore the trails and roads on your own.
To get to Angel
Island take the 10AM Angel Island Ferry from Tiburon Ferry Terminal
or a Blue & Gold Ferry from Pier 41 at Fisherman's Wharf. Allow for
an earlier start from SF to get to the island by 10:30. We will meet
at the small visitor's center just beyond the ferry dock.
Bring a lunch and
1-2 litres of water. You may also want sun protection. Cost for the
ferry is as follows.
The Tiburon-Angel
Island Ferry is $7/adult, $5/kid 5! -12, under 5 free.
The Blue & Gold
from SF is $12/adult, $6.50/kid 6-12, under 6 free.
Bringing a bike
is $1 extra on each ferry. These prices are round-trip and include the
admission to the park. The boat ride itself is worth the price. Ferries
return from Angel Island every hour at 20 minutes until 5:20 PM. My
plan is to end the hike in time to catch the 4:20. For more info on
getting to the park goto http://www.transitinfo.org/Outdoors/Angel_Island.html.
The exact schedule for the Blue & Gold Ferry will not be published until
9/2. See you on the trail!

| San Francisco Luncheon Program
Phil Goldman,
co-founder of WebTV Networks, Inc., will discuss the future of television
and the digital home. Does the future hold a television set or a set-top
box combination with all the functionality of a computer? Will the computer
be a PC/TV replacement for the family room television, and will all
devices have telephone capabilities? What are the prospects for hand-held
devices and appliances?
Phil will discuss
the role that TV software and servers play in fulfilling the promise
of the digital home. He will also explain how PCs, hand-held devices,
and TV technology interoperate, and discuss the overall interactive
television strategy of delivering a wide range of services and information
via the Internet. In addition, Phil will describe the WebTV corporate
vision of delivering overall better TV that will enable the masses to
receive information and services as well as interact with television
quickly, easily, and cost effectively.
Mr. Goldman is currently Vice President of the TV Platform Division
at Microsoft Corp and is responsible for building the TV platform business
at Microsoft. He graduated from Princeton University in 1986 with a
bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science.
