| South Bay Luncheon
Paul Wythes '55, General
Partner of Sutter Hill Ventures and Charter Trustee of Princeton, is the Chair
of the Wythes Committee. The Committee was appointed by the Board of Trustees
three years ago to explore two questions:
1) How can Princeton make the most responsible uses of its exceptional
resources? 2) How can Princeton best fulfill its obligation to contribute to
higher education, the world of scholarship, and social progress?
Wythes will discuss the recommendations, recently approved by the Board and
Princeton faculty, of his report: financial aid, size of the Graduate School,
composition of faculty and staff, use of technology, and most notably, to
increase undergraduate enrollment by 10% over a four year period.

| Special tour of galleries of California ecology, history &
art
The Oakland Museum of
California is a complex of terraced gardens and galleries devoted to the art,
history, and natural sciences of California. The Natural Sciences Gallery
depicts the state's diverse ecosystems, the California History Hall presents the
state's history from the pre-European period to current times, and the
California Art Gallery surveys the state's art from the early 1800s to the
present. For more about the museum, see its website at www.museumca.org.
We will meet at the museum entrance at 10:30 a.m. for a special guided tour of
museum highlights, followed by lunch in the museum cafeteria. Time and weather
permitting, we could take an afternoon walk around Lake Merritt.
The museum is located at 10th and Oak Streets in downtown Oakland. BART riders
exit at the Lake Merritt station and walk one block east on Oak Street. Drivers
from the south should take I-880 north to the Oak Street exit, turn right onto
Oak, and go four blocks to the museum. Drivers from other areas should take
I-580 or 24 to I-980 (*not* 880) west to downtown Oakland, exit at the Jackson
Street ramp, go straight on the exit road to the third light, turn left onto
Oak, and go five blocks to the museum. The museum has a parking garage with a
relatively modest fee.
RSVP (helpful, but not required) to Dan Sullivan '63 at 415-626-8153.
