The Art of Thai Cooking 3/3 10-1:30 Piedmont Tuyen Ho '95

Thai cuisine is a harmonious blending of hot, sour, sweet, salty, and aromatic flavors, all within a single dish or among many dishes in a meal. In this introductory Thai cooking class, Ms. Kasma Loha-unchit will guide us through the basics of how to balance these varied flavors with a scrumptious menu of favorite Thai dishes – all in the comforts of her home kitchen. After collectively preparing the dishes, participants will share in a feast of their work. Kasma, who was born in Thailand, has taught Thai cooking classes in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1985. She has taught at Tante Marie’s in San Francisco and has appeared at Cooks and Books in Danville. Kasma especially loves to teach out of her home so that she can keep classes small and intimate and get to know her students.

The class menu includes:
* Hot-and-Sour Prawn Soup
* Grilled Beef Salad with Lemon Grass, Mint, and Rice
* Salmon Poached in Green Curry Sauce with Eggplants
* Spicy Thai Basil Chicken
* Sweet Rice Pudding with Coconut Cream and Mangoes

St Patrick's Day Hike in Skyline Park near Napa 3/17 10:30-4 Napa Dan Sullivan '63
Six mile hike in Skyline Park near the City of Napa

Skyline Park rises into the hills southeast of the City of Napa. We will follow the Skyline Trail along the ridgeline for about three miles, with good views over the Napa Valley and San Pablo Bay. After pausing at a small lake, we will return on the Buckeye Trail through forest and grassland. Light rain modifies the route; heavy rain cancels the hike. Skyline Park is owned by Napa County but maintained almost entirely by local volunteers, so it is a remarkable example of community involvement.

We will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the parking area inside the park entrance. We should be back to the cars by 4 p.m.

Directions: From highway 29 in Napa, take the Imola Ave/121-North exit, and go east 2.9 miles to the park entrance on your right. The entrance fee is $4 per car.

RSVP is helpful, but not required. Please call Dan Sullivan '63 at 415-626-8153 if you can offer or need a ride from San Francisco or the East Bay.
