River Rafting down the South Fork of the American River

Join fellow tigers once again for a leisurely trip down the South Fork of the American River. Every year, this event has drawn a huge group for a fun day in the sun! Although there are swells and rapids, this is not a rough whitewater route so feel free to bring coolers and lunches; plus, non-Princetonians are welcome.

With RSVP, please include a note with your name, class, phone, address, and e-mail. For detailed directions and map, please contact Christina Smith '99.

River Rafts is located at 9840 Fair Oaks Blvd., in Fair Oaks California. Once we arrive a shuttle escort us to (pending early arrival) and from the take-off location.

Last Chance to Visit the Asian in GG Park! 8/19 12:30-3:30 San Francisco Christina Cragholm '97
Asian Art Museum Tours

Last chance! Please visit the Asian Art Museum in Golden Gate Park before it closes on October 7, 2001, in preparation for its move to a new, expanded facility at San Francisco's Civic Center in the fall of 2002.

Join tour guide Andrew Bogan '96 as he leads two tours of the Museum collection. The first tour is of the current exhibit, "Empire of the Sultans: Ottoman Art from the Khalili Collection", which features over 200 objects spanning six centuries of Ottoman rule (late 13th century – 1922). This exhibition explores the originality and resilience of Ottoman artistic expression in religious, military, and administrative and daily life, as well as the central role of imperial patronage. Showcasing examples of Holy Kur'ans, armor and scientific instruments, textiles, treasury objects, decorative arts and manuscripts, the exhibition explores every aspect of Ottoman art. The objects, on view for the first time in the US, are on loan from the Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, London, one of the largest and most important of its kind.

The second tour is more personalized and will include various Highlights from the Permanent Collection. The Asian Art Museum's permanent collection encompasses more than 12,000 works of art spanning 6,000 years and representing the countries and cultures of Asia. Outstanding selections from the collection are currently on view, including Japanese, Indian, Himalayan, Southeast Asian, and Islamic works.

"Empire of the Sultans" starts at 1pm sharp (please arrive at 12:40pm and meet inside Gruhn Court near the display on the back wall).
"Highlights of the Permanent Collection" starts at 2:30pm sharp (if you are not going on the earlier tour, please specify in your RSVP, and then meet at 2:15pm inside Gruhn Court near the display on the back wall).
