My Heart Belongs to Dada

Here's a chance to expand your knowledge of Dada, an early 20th century European artistic and literary movement. Join us for a tour of "Dreaming with Open Eyes - Dada and Surrealist Art," an exhibition presented by The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. We will meet in the lobby at 6:00 pm for the tour. At 7:00 pm, we will hear a lecture by Dr. Marc Dachy, Dada scholar. Then, feel free to stick around to enjoy other festivities, which include music, cash bar, dining, and docent tours

About the exhibit:
Provocative creations by revolutionary artist including Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Rene Magritte, Salvador Dali and Max Erns document the spirited histories of two closely related movement in the early 20th century. Work in various media, from sculpture and painting to film and photography, demonstrates the experimental nature of both movements as artists drew upon such devices as dream imagery, unconscious writing, found objects, humor and parody, collage and construction to attack traditional notions of art.

Elder Care Discussion Panel 4/7 1-3:30 San Francisco Christine Brumback '95

Preparing for Your Future: An Introduction to the Medical, Financial, Legal and Emotional issues of growing older.

Aging presents a number of challenges and decisions, and it is often not until a crisis occurs that we seek out information and begin preparation. However there are fundamental steps you can take at any age to prepare for these issues. Join us for an afternoon discussion with Bay Area experts from the medical, legal, financial and elder care fields. Our goal is to help you prepare for the golden years that you and your loved ones will enjoy.

The panelists will provide an overview of what you need to know within their given field, and you will then be able to ask questions of each expert. Each speaker will also host smaller, more specific sessions on topics within their areas of expertise, such as Alzheimer's disease, choosing a care facility, and estate planning.

Panelists Include:

Brad Stuart, MD, Hospice doctor and author, specializing in end of life health care. Dr. Stuart will discuss advance care planning -- choosing the kind of care you want and communicating that to your caretakers. He will also cover the basic medicine of what happens during our later years, and give an overview of Hospice. Dr. Stuart is encouraging attendees to bring health questions and concerns about aging such as cancer or Alzheimer's disease which he will be prepared to address with the group or one-on-one.

Judith Moore-Guilfoyle, Ombudsman. As an ombudsman for San Mateo County, Ms. Moore-Guilfoyle's inspects care facilities for the state, and investigates claims of elder mistreatment. She will explain what to look for in a care facility as well as how to advocate for loved ones within a facility.

Vernon Goins, of Taylor & Goins LLP. Mr. Goins will explain the basics of what legal documents (wills, power of attorney) should be prepared. He will also be available for specific questions on estate planning and other legal issues related to aging.

Denise Michaud, CLTC, from the TDC Financial Group. Ms. Michaud has over twenty years experience in the insurance field and specializes in long-term care policies. She will give an overview of insurance products that help cover the financial of aging and elder care, as well as give specific tips on how to choose the right coverage for your needs.

Kyle Harrington '92 of CIBC Oppenheimer. Kyle is a financial advisor who will speak about how to build and preserve assets to enable a comfortable financial future.

The Business of Theatre 4/17 12-1:15 San Francisco Krim Stephenson '97
PCNC SF Luncheon - April

Jonathan Reinis ’69 has produced some of the most successful live theatre in San Francisco in the last twenty years. He will speak on the economics that shape the local scene, particularly the differences between non-profit and commercial theatre. How does the city’s cultural and business climate dictate which productions succeed, which fail, and which never see the stage? What does it take for a production, and for a theatre, to succeed?

Mr. Reinis received a special Tony Award in the year 2000 for the production of Dame Edna: The Royal Tour. He operates Theatre On The Square in San Francisco, which he built in 1982. He has over 60 producing credits, including the world premiere of Sam Shepard’s The Late Henry Moss, starring Woody Harrelson, Cheech Marin, Nick Nolte and Sean Penn; The Vagina Monologues with Eve Ensler; John Leguizamo’s Freak; Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde; Forever Tango; and Steve Martin's Picasso At The Lapin Agile.

Come and meet other local alumni and enjoy a lively discussion over a catered lunch. Reservations are required at least 48 hours in advance. RSVPs by email are preferred.
