Aquarium of the Bay Tour 5/4 10-12 San Francisco Jill Spangenberg '89
Guided Tour of Aquarium of the Bay with Jill Spangenberg'89

Aquarium of the Bay (previously UnderWater World at Pier 39) is a unique educational and entertainment facility dedicated to the diverse aquatic life of the San Francisco Bay and its surrounding waters (sorry, no mammals, though you can walk over to the west side of Pier 39 to see wild sea lions in person). The Aquarium seeks to entertain, educate and inspire preservation of this wonderful natural resource. A major renovation was completed last summer, including the addition of a whole new exhibit gallery. Come on a guided tour with Jill Spangenberg '89, consulting veterinarian for AOTB, and learn about what's going on under the surface of our bay!
AOTB can be reached by car (parking at Pier 39 garage and other public lots), MUNI, BART, and local ferry service. See the wesite for detailed directions: www.aquariumofthebay.com

PCNC San Francisco Luncheon - May

Jacob Curtis ’75 will lead a discussion on the role that sports plays in defining our culture. A longtime sportswriter, he has a first-hand perspective on the athletes, fans, and memorable moments that fuel our national obsession. Why do people care so passionately about sports? What does this say about our society? How does the sports culture affect our values and identity?

For 21 years, Mr. Curtis has covered sports for the San Francisco Chronicle. He has written extensively on college and professional baseball, basketball, football, as well as many other sports. He can be read regularly in the Chronicle’s print and Web editions. Mr. Curtis received his undergraduate degree in Sociology from Princeton.

Summit hike on Mt Diablo 5/18 11-4 Danville Dan Sullivan '63
5-mile loop to the summit of Mt Diablo

From an elevation of 3849 feet, the summit of Mount Diablo looks out over the entire Bay Area and across the Central Valley to the Sierra Nevada. This five-mile hike begins at an elevation of 3000 feet and climbs steadily to the summit, following a trail on the north side of the summit ridge. After a long lunch break to enjoy the view, we will return on a trail on the south side of the ridge. Bring a windbreaker, sunscreen, lunch, and liquids.

Driving directions: Take the Diablo Rd/Danville exit from I-680, and follow Diablo Rd 3 miles east. Turn left onto Mt Diablo Scenic Blvd (which becomes South Gate Rd).
