Fourth of July Fireworks and Picnic 7/4 12-10 San Francisco Emily Koster '99
Enjoy music and fireworks in the company of your Princeton friends

The Fourth of July falls on a Thursday this year- so if you aren't lucky enough to have that friday off and will be in the city for the holiday, come and relax in the sun with us on Marina Green and stay for the fireworks.

As many people probably won't know their holiday plans until the last minute, we are not requiring RSVPs or payments- just bring yourself, your friends, and the refreshments and beverages of your choice, and look for the orange and black out on the Green. We're going potluck/BYOB style!! It should be a casual and fun day, and there are plenty of bars and eateries in the area, if you want to take a little side trip while you wait for the show. It's the closest thing to the Mall in DC that you'll get in the Bay Area. See you there!

Please note that driving is highly discouraged as parking near Marina Green will be difficult. See the link below for transportation info. from previous years.

Marin Headlands and Point Bonita Lighthouse 7/20 10-4 Golden Gate National Recreation Area Dan Sullivan '63
Hike from Rodeo Beach to Point Bonita Lighthouse

Looking out over the Pacific Ocean and the Golden Gate, the Marin Headlands is one of the most scenic parts of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. At the southwestern tip of the Headlands is historic Point Bonita Lighthouse (completed 1855), sitting on a rocky promontory that is accessible only by a narrow suspension bridge. This hike combines a walk from Rodeo Beach up along one of the ridges of the Headlands, a lunch stop at the Headlands Visitor Center, and a visit to the Point Bonita Lighthouse. The total loop is about 7 miles, but it can be shortened if you'd rather drive to the trailhead for the lighthouse. Bring a windbreaker, sunscreen, lunch, and liquids. You may want binoculars and a camera.

Driving directions: If you're going north across the Golden Gate Bridge, exit on Alexander Avenue immediately after the vista point. In a few hundred yards turn left onto Bunker Road. (A brown sign points you to the park, but it does not name the road.) Go through a one-lane tunnel and continue for about 2.5 miles, bear right at the turnoff for the Visitor Center, and continue to the end of the road at the Rodeo Beach parking area. It takes only 15 minutes to get from 101 to Rodeo Beach.

If you're coming south on 101 towards the Golden Gate Bridge, take the last Sausalito exit just before the bridge, circle back under the freeway for a short distance, turn left onto Bunker Road, and continue to the end of the road as described above.

RSVP is helpful (but not required), particularly if you can offer or need a ride.

Princeton Project 55 Education Seminar 7/24 6-7 San Francisco Doug Roberts '97
The State of CA School Reform and K-12 education

All Princetonians are welcome to join the Project 55 summer interns for a conversation about the state of K-12 education, school reform, and innovative bay area projects in the educational space.

This event will build on previous PCNC/Project 55 meetings about school reform. The No Child Left Behind Act leaves in its wake a sea of ideas, opinions, and solutions to meeting the rigorous demands made of students, parents, and educators by this legislation. Many Princetonians are involved in different pieces of this work, creating solutions for teacher recruitment, school choice, charter schools, school and teacher accountability, standards-based instruction, and
student assessment. This meeting will be an opportunity for casual conversation around these issues with a diverse group of folks all working toward the same goal: to improve student achievement in public schools.

It will also be an opportunity to meet this summer's Princeton Project 55 Public Interest Program's summer interns and learn about their work with non-profit organizations in the bay area. As in the past, this education forum will be facilitated by Temp Keller, Executive Director, CharterTeach, and Doug Roberts, Director of Content, Project Achieve. Please join us for a lively discussion.
