Painting and Gardening at San Francisco Community School

San Francisco Community School needs our help. Please join fellow alumni in painting and gardening at this teacher-run school in San Francisco's Excelsior district. Founded in 1972, San Francisco Community School serves an ethnically and academically diverse student body. We'll spend the morning painting staircases and benches or planting and mulching in the garden. In the event of rain, the school can use our help painting the cafeteria and kitchen. There's plenty to do, rain or shine. Friends and relatives welcome.

How Princeton Alumni can Rebuild the Entrepreneurial Rocket 3/11 6:30-8 San Francisco Josie Howard '94

Join us for an insightful and provocative panel discussion led by some of the Bay area’s most prominent entrepreneurial Tigers. We will address a myriad of burning questions, including:

What is different about the entrepreneurial experience now? Specifically -- raising funding in the current climate, what investors are looking for, and how valuations have changed. If the environment is harsher now, what is the incentive to build new ventures? How has the strategy and time horizon changed? What will it take to be successful in the future? What are the impediments to achieving rapid growth again, and how can we really help each other? What are the success stories? What will be needed as we emerge from this downturn and rebuild our momentum?

Trevor Traina ‘90, an entrepreneur and private investor, will lead this panel discussion. Mr. Traina founded Compare.Net, the leading buyer’s guide on the internet in 1996, which he later sold to Microsoft in 1999. Most recently he was a Group Manager in Microsoft’s MSN Internet division. Currently, he is chairman of SchemaLogic, Inc. Mr. Traina holds an AB in Politics from Princeton, a graduate degree in Political Science from Oxford, and an MBA from Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

Eric Tilenius '90 heads Tilenius Ventures, where he is actively engaged in creating a new (still secret) start-up. Previously, he was CEO of Atomica Corporation, an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Mayfield Fund, and Co-Founder and Chairman of Netcentives Inc. He holds an MBA from Stanford and an AB in Economics summa cum laude from Princeton. Eric founded his first company while still in high school.

James Currier '90, is the founder and CEO of Emode.com, a site that offers Web-based personality testing and matchmaking. Prior to Emode, Mr. Currier worked in entertainment in Los Angeles and Hong Kong, did early stage venture capital investing at Battery Ventures. Mr. Currier holds an AB in Politics from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Bo Lasater ’90 recently founded Earthlike Entertainment, which develops strategy and simulation games for the PC and console markets. Previously, he co-founded Totality, an application and infrastructure manager for e-business, serving American Airlines, Martha Stewart, and others. Bo holds a BA in Mathematics from Princeton, and an MBA and Masters of Computer Science from Rice University.

Gil Silberman ‘86 is founder of Genesis LLP, a San Francisco law firm that counsels emerging private companies. Mr. Silberman’s entrepreneurial experiences include the fields of computer software, earth-sensing satellites, and hydrogeology as well as his current role as an owner of Butterfly restaurant and nightclub. Mr. Silberman holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Princeton and a JD from Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law.

Understanding the San Francisco Real Estate Market

In the past few years, the San Francisco commercial and residential real estate markets have gone through dramatic changes. While many are familiar with the dot-com boom and bust and their accompanying mad scramble for space followed by staggering vacancy rates, what other factors were involved? What roles did government regulation, local politicians, developers and investors play? Going forward, what can we expect? What are the best options for companies looking to increase or decrease their consumption of space? Meanwhile, on the residential side, with interest rates at historic lows, is now a good time to buy or are we on a real estate bubble that is about to burst?

Ezra Mersey *82 is a Managing Director at Tishman Speyer Properties (TSP) and directs the firm's activities in the western United States. Prior to joining TSP in 1997, Mr. Mersey was Executive Vice President of Kajima Urban Development, where he was responsible for the development of major projects throughout the United States, including Pacific Bell Park. Springtime hike on Mt Tamalpais 3/23 10-3 Mt Tamalpais State Park Dan Sullivan '63
6-mile loop hike in Mt Tamalpais State Park

Celebrate springtime on a 6-mile loop hike past Barth's Retreat, Laurel Dell, Cataract Falls, and other bucolic spots on Mt Tam. We'll be at an elevation of 1500-2000 feet, so it's likely to be cool. Bring lunch, liquids, and whatever you need for wind, sun, and maybe rain. (Rain will change the route so we'll have a dry place for lunch.)

Driving directions: Beginning at the Highway 1 exit from US 101, take Highway 1 north about 3 miles, then bear right (uphill) onto Panoramic Highway. In another mile, bear slightly left (uphill) at an irregular four-way junction. The Bootjack Parking Area is about 3.5 miles further on the right-hand side of Panoramic Highway. Allow 20-30 minutes for the winding drive after you leave 101.

RSVP is helpful (but not required), particularly if you can offer or need a ride.

Date: Sunday 3/23
Time: 10-3
Location: meet at Bootjack Parking Area, Mt Tamalpais State Park
Address: Panoramic Highway
RSVP: Not Required
