Explore Butano State Park 8/2 11-4 near Pescadero Dan Sullivan '63
Day hike in Butano State Park

Butano State Park lies in a secluded redwood-filled canyon near the coast, midway between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. We'll take a moderate hike of about six miles through the redwoods and up along the scenic ridge on the south side of the park. Summer weather near the coast is changeable, so be prepared for both warm sun and cool fog. Bring lunch, liquids, windbreaker, and sunscreen. We'll meet at the small Nature Center near the park entrance station.

RSVP is helpful (but not required), particularly if you can offer or need a ride.

Driving directions: From Half Moon Bay, go south on Highway One about 18 miles, turn left onto Pescadero Road for about 3 miles, then turn right onto Cloverdale Road and continue another 5.5 miles to the park entrance. Allow at least 45 minutes for the drive from Half Moon Bay. (Other routes are possible if you're coming from the South Bay, but it's still a long drive from the urban centers where most PCNC members live. Enjoy the scenery.)

Private Princeton Tour of the California Academy of Sciences 8/16 2-5 SF Ashley Conrad-Saydah '99 '99
Get an inside look at this fascinating museum, planetarium and aquarium

Enjoy an afternoon behind-the-scenes tour of the California Academy of Sciences - a natural history museum, planetarium and aquarium in Golden Gate Park - before it closes for renovations this fall. Start the afternoon by bringing your picnic lunch to a sunny field next to the Academy (starting at 2pm) and then meet up with the group at 3pm to spend some time experiencing an earthquake, peering at penguins and marveling at the millions of specimens housed in the Academy. A trip to the planetarium may also be available. After the tour, those interested will be adjoining to a nearby watering hole for drinks and discussion.

Ashley Conrad-Saydah ’99, an Academy educator, will be your tour guide and will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the Academy, its history and its future. The first twenty people to RSVP will get free admission, although donations to the museum are welcome.

For more information on the California Academy of Sciences, go to: http://www.calacademy.org.

For directions to the academy itself see: http://www.calacademy.org/geninfo/directions.html. Directions to the picnic field, which is located at the back entrance of the Academy on Middle Drive, are as follows:
