SF Luncheon 4/21 12:30-1:30 San Francisco Bernard Lee '90
with David Lewis, Executive Director of Save The Bay

Our first luncheon talk of 2004 promises to be both entertaining and exciting to alums interested in the future of the San Francisco Bay. For the last six years David Lewis '83 has been Executive Director of Save The Bay, which has been working for more than four decades to protect and restore the natural treasure in our midst. David will talk about two important victories for the Bay in 2003 - halting SFO's runway expansion and acquiring more than 16,000 acres of salt ponds for restoration. He will also discuss how Save The Bay is tackling the toughest threats to San Francisco Bay, sprawl and pollution.

A Bay Area native, David previously organized legislative and issue campaigns from Washington, DC. He served as Chief Operations Officer for the League of Conservation Voters, and as senior Legislative Assistant for U.S. Senator Carl Levin. He graduated from Princeton in 1983 with a degree in Politics and American Studies.

A national treasure, the Tuolumne River offers the finest in class IV whitewater in a canyon of pure wilderness. Clear and cool, fresh from its headwaters in Yosemite National Park, the Tuolumne thunders through a grand succession of boulder gardens and spectacular cascades. It has been designated a National Wild and Scenic River by Congress. Come join fellow adventurous alumni on a day trip down a spectacular 18 mile stretch of this magnificent river.

The group will meet in Groveland (about a 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco) and then spend the rest of the day rafting. Lunch of buffet-style sandwiches will be provided. At the end of the journey, the group will be met and driven back to their cars. You should be back at your car by about 5 p.m.
