| A Red Wine Tasting
Syrah (or Shiraz as the
Australians call it) has been enjoying a surge of popularity in the United
States. More approachable than Cabernet Sauvignon but with the potential for
greatness, it complements a wide variety of foods. Its versatility derives
partially from the many styles in which it is made. A spicy Rhone from France
is much different than a fruit bomb from Australia’s Barossa Valley. At this
tasting, we will sample Syrah and Syrah blends from at least 3 different
continents and enjoy their similarities and differences. Light appetizers will
also be served. The setting will be the cellar of the historic London Wine Bar
in the financial district of San Francisco. As always, PCNC wine tastings are
for both connoisseurs and those who just want to enjoy some good wine.

| Breakfast Club
Join fellow alumni in
participating at the Edgewood Breakfast Club on September 16th from 8:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m.
The Breakfast Club is an opportunity for volunteers to meet Edgewood’s children
at the Vicente Campus and make breakfast with them. The Campus is a residential
treatment facility for children with severe emotional disabilities. The
Breakfast Club provides a safe and structured way for them to develop social
skills and interact with the community.
The morning begins with an orientation about Edgewood, the residential treatment
program, and the children that Edgewood serves. Volunteers will be divided into
four teams and assigned to a cottage. With staff supervision, volunteers will
prepare and serve breakfast for the children. Clean-up is followed by quiet time
in the cottages, then an optional group recreational activity. Volunteers must
be 18 or older.
The Edgewood residential campus is located at 1801 Vicente Street (at 29th
Avenue) in San Francisco’s Sunset district. There is ample parking.
Please RSVP to Joanna Armstrong at joanna7181@gmail.com or (925)984-4203.

| Relax to Recharge!
Work, family, school,
volunteer and personal commitments - you are a busy woman! How often do you take
time to sit, enjoy a cup of tea, relax and rejuvinate? Most likely, not often
enough. So, please join the PWN at the home of Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers '87 S'85
for afternoon tea on September 24.
The professionals of Teance will treat us to a traditional tea ceremony and
sampling of tea varietals. Then, our discussion will focus on sharing useful,
creative, and most importantly, realistic, ways of taking time out from our busy
lives to recharge - mind, body, spirit!
We are looking for alumnae to help lead our discussion, so if you or someone you
know has a career or avocation that can provide the group with some insights
(life coach? spiritual leader? yogi?), please let us know!
This event is free for members and non-members and an enjoyable way to meet
alumnae from the 70s to the 00s. Please RSVP, and we will provide address and
driving directions.
