Palo Alto Pub Night -- First Friday of the Month 12/1 7-9 Palo Alto Whitney Colella and Catherine Baker
Tigers are grabbing drinks together on the First Friday of the month in Palo Alto. Tiger fans welcome.

Yes, the First Friday of the Month means its time to mix and mingle with your fellow Tigers. On Dec. 1st from 7 pm to 9 pm were converging at Gordon Biersch in Palo Alto . Its an absolutely fabulous little pub.

Please consider wearing orange or some kind of Princeton flare. As one alum confided last time, It was great when people were wearing some kind of obvious Princeton sign. Im not a creepy bar guy, but I sure felt like one standing there staring at people trying to figure out if they were from Princeton .

As always, everyone is welcome friends, family, even France supporters.

Is Iraq An Unsolvable Problem ??? + Middle East TV 12/6 6-8 San Francisco David Marshak '66
Symposium on current situation in Iraq & Middle East, with special note about impact of satellite tv stations in region

Is Iraq An Unsolvable Problem ???

Despite an occupation of more than three years, US ignorance about Iraq and the rest of the Middle East remains as pronounced as ever.

We need to take a profoundly critical look at the thinking that got us into Iraq in the first place, especially among the Democrats and broad public that went along with the Bush regime program.

In the absence of such a fundamental analysis, the US will continue to make the same sort of basic mistakes that have plagued this venture from the beginning,

and have not just needlessly polarized Western / Muslim relations at the worst possible time,

but created a situation of structural, decades-long instability in a part of the world we cannot simply "leave", however emotionally satisfying such an idea may be.

Plus ... Colloquy on "Middle East Satellite TV" with Special Guest Jamal Dajani, creator of the groundbreaking and award-winning MOSAIC, a digest of Arab / Iranian / Israeli satellite tv news broadcasts from the Middle East, seen daily on Link TV.

David Caploe has an honors AB in Social Studies from Harvard, an MA in political science and PhD in international political economy from Princeton. He has been a close observer of the Middle East since the 1973 October War, and is author of the invaluable guide Middle East 101: Thirteen Things Americans Need To Know About The Middle East, http://www.grokyourworld.com/louisxiv/2006/07/me_madness_xxvi_1.html, as well as a 50-part series on this summer's Israeli invasion of Lebanon, both of which and more can be found at Grok Your World http://www.grokyourworld.com/louisxiv/ .

American Public Religion - A Symposium 12/7 6-8 San Francisco David Marshak '66
Is Santa Claus better known and better regarded than Jesus?

When must religious icons be publicly restricted because some citizens feel left out? Some people want pictures of "their" guys and some do not. We have more Hindus and Muslims separately than we do Episcopalians - yet the Episcopalian view still dominates our national consciousness. And what about the ACLU / People For the American Way and other "secularists" - where do they fit in at the party? For many people, any day that gets them off work is an important holiday. With malice towards none, we will discuss all this and more in a non-denominational spirit of the "holiday season." Please join us for what has become an intriguing and provocative series of PCNC events, attended by very bright and articulate people from all over the Bay Area.

He is a retired Vice President and Technology Manager at Bank of America and has a systems consulting business, Marshak Associates West, http://www.marshakassociateswest.com/Index.html

David Caploe gave an excellent presentation on Political Islam to the club in May and on Middle East Madness in August.
