Special Princeton Gathering at the Asian Art Museum 8/2 11-2:30 San Francisco Chris Chin '91
Private Ming Dynasty Exhibit Tour followed by Catered Reception

PCNC, along with the Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni (APGA), the Alumni Association Graduate Alumni Relations Committee (GARC), and the Asian American Alumni Association of Princeton (A4P), is proud to co-sponsor a private, docent-led tour of "Power and Glory: Court Arts of China's Ming Dynasty" -- a limited engagement exhibition at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum.

Timed to coincide with the summer Olympics in Beijing, this major groundbreaking exhibition explores the grandeur and opulence of one of the most important dynasties in Chinese history. Some of the most precious artworks from the Ming dynasty (1368–1644) are on display from three of China's most prestigious institutions-The Palace Museum (Forbidden City) in Beijing, the Nanjing Municipal Museum, and the Shanghai Museum, along with some of the finest items from this period owned by the Asian Art Museum.

Many of the more than 240 objects-porcelain, paintings, textiles, lacquer, jade, jewelry, architectural elements, and more-are on view for the first time in the United States. The exhibition provides a rare opportunity to experience the breadth and depth of Ming achievement, through an unequaled collection of works from the Chinese dynasty most renowned for its refined aesthetic and standards of perfection.

Space is limited: Museum docents Andrew Bogan '96 S'97 and Anthony Pan *69 will each lead a tour group beginning at 11am, with participation limited to 20 persons per group. Following the tour, new Museum Director Jay Jie Xu *93 will give welcoming remarks and join us for a luncheon reception in the Peterson Room and gardens.

Note: Price includes docent-led tour and lunch with the Director (museum admittance not included and must be paid at the door separately - special rsvp group rate is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, $6 for youth 13–17, and free for children under 12)

Discovery Walk in San Francisco Presidio 8/24 10:30-4 San Francisco Dan Sullivan '63
6-mile circuit through the forest and coastline of the Presidio in San Francisco

Beginning as a Spanish military post in 1776, the Presidio has now become a wonderful recreational resource as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. We will meet near the new Lettterman Digital Arts Center, walk through the Main Post with its historic Army buildings, and then take little-used trails to climb through the Presidio forests. After a lunch stop at Mountain Lake Park, we will pass through Fort Winfield Scott on our way to the coastal bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Golden Gate. We will walk under the Golden Gate Bridge and return along the "Golden Gate Promenade" by San Francisco Bay. Bring lunch, liquids, sunscreen, and windbreaker. (August days are often foggy and windy in this corner of San Francisco.) Princeton friends and children are welcome. RSVP is helpful, but not required.

Driving note: If you're going west on Lombard Street, stay in the left lane and continue straight on Lombard where the main stream of traffic bears right on Richardson to get to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Date: Sunday 8/24
Time: 10:30-4
Location: San Francisco Presidio, San Francisco
Address: Lombard and Lyon Streets
RSVP: Not Required
