From the Co-Presidents...
Dear fellow Northern California alumni,
Hello Tigers! We are taking over the PCNC presidential role from Heather Kellman '99, who has put such an incredible amount of energy into the role that we realized it would take two of us to adequately fill it. The Princeton Club of Northern California was founded in 1910, and we recognize that there is a rich tradition of Tiger Pride in the Bay Area. As the new co-presidents, we look forward to continuing the good work that has been done by both our predecessors and the other members of the PCNC Executive Committee.
Our connection to Princeton is as strong as we suspect it is for many of you; we met at Princeton in 1996 (thank you Outdoor Action), and many of our best friends today are those we met in the halls of Forbes and Butler. We've lived in San Francisco for almost 12 years, and appreciate both the sun of Potrero Hill and the fog of the Richmond. Ultimately, loving both made the decision to get more involved with PCNC an easy one.
As long as we've been here, we're always finding that there is more to do, and more people to meet. As co-presidents, one of our main responsibilities is to make it easy for our fellow Princetonians to explore together - both literally in terms of visiting new places, but just as much, figuritively, whether it be by listening to an inspiring alumni speaker, or by meeting other engaged minds within the community. Gillian has been an active member in the Princeton Women's Network Book Club for 8+ years, and whenever we attend a PCNC outing, we have found that we have been enriched in some way. We hope that you have had a similar experience, and will continue to 'explore' with us.
As we transition into our roles, we look forward to meeting many of you, and hearing from all of you. We encourage you to tell us both what it is you want from the club, but even better, what it is you might be able to share with the club. As an all-volunteer organization, we are a community that is strengthened from within - there are so many talented people working with the PCNC that we've met in just our first months, and we can't wait to work with more of you. Events are a big part of what PCNC does, and we are looking to continue to evolve what it is based on your interests. One of our first "new" events was the Princeton/Harvard basketball game viewing in March, which we felt was very much needed given the excitement of the time! Along these lines, please let us know if there are specific event ideas that you'd like to see PCNC putting on or facilitating.
We hope to see you soon, and all the best,
Gillian Ashenfelter '99 and Eliot Kent-Uritam '98
