Community Service

Are you looking for a way to help out members of the local community? The Princeton Women's Network is collecting donations for a San Francisco women's shelter at all of our events. The Riley Center, a haven for victims of domestic violence and their families, provides temporary housing as well as counseling and other support services to help battered women stabilize their lives.

The shelter is located in San Francisco; the specific address is kept confidential to protect Riley Center clients. The shelter needs donations of household supplies, toiletries, food, basic over-the-counter medicines and clothing. If you have goods to donate, please bring them to any PWN event and someone will collect them and take them to the Riley Center donation site.

For anyone interested in making a deeper commitment, the Riley Center can use your time and skills as well. They need volunteers to assist with their children's program and crisis line. Because of the delicate issues involved in working with battered women, volunteers must complete a 45-hour domestic violence sensitivity training. The training occurs three times a year in June, September and February.

Volunteers are asked to commit to working three hours per week for at least six months following the training. For more information, please call 415-552-2943 or visit the Web site at www.rileycenter.org. Volunteers with less time to give are also needed for activities and services throughout the year. If you would like to be on a list of volunteers for these events, please send an email to sawyer@alumni.princeton.edu indicating your interest.
